Petrochemical Experts 

Peter’s expertise is in large continuous processes, specializing in operations and maintenance for petrochemical and inorganic chemical plants.  Prior to joining Emerson’s Chemical Industry Solutions Group, Peter worked at BASF where he held roles in engineering, maintenance, and operations.  Focusing primarily on streamlining and improving plant performance and safety, Peter brings almost 20 years of process controls experience with MDI, Acrylic Acid, and the caprolactam/polyamide value chain.

James has more than 29 years experience in process control optimization. His areas of expertise include process instrumentation, control strategy analysis and design, control optimization, DCS configuration and maintenance, control valve performance testing, and Advanced Process Control (APC). He has completed control optimization projects for a wide variety of chemical and hydrocarbon processes including hydrocarbon cracking and separation, crude oil distillation trains, polyethylene, polypropylene, waxes and resins, petroleum pipeline control, carbon dioxide, cryogenic air separation, ethylene oxide and glycol, polybutene, pH, gas plants, batch reactors, pulp and paper stock preparation, methanol reformers, partial oxidation processes, polymer oxidation reactors, boiler control, and many distillation processes.

Gary joins Emerson as a technical consultant after almost 31 years with UOP LLC, a well known licensor of refining and petrochemical processing technology. Gary participated in refining process unit startups around the world and held roles of increasing responsibility in the process control group, responsible for developing UOP’s standard specifications for process control and guidelines for training new engineers. He acted as the single-point contact for trouble-shooting instrumentation and control systems issues at start-ups, and managed their instrumentation and controls group. 

Lou has more than 30 years experience in the process control industry.  In his more than 25 years with Emerson, he has provided consulting and implementation services on a wide variety of chemical and refining processes in plants around the world.  As a generalist and on-demand specialist, Lou brings together that perfect marriage of strong process engineering and control engineering knowledge.  Lou’s specialty as a consultant is in his ability to quickly assess a problem and help our customers leverage current technology to create a well-defined solution to meet their process and business objectives. 

Beginning his career with Exxon Chemical, Pete has more than 30 years experience in Advanced Process Control (APC).  With experience in both technical and management roles, Pete has covered consulting engagements as well as implementation projects for a wide variety of processes and plants around the world.  He has led consulting studies to help refiners, petrochemical manufacturers, utilities, and polymer plants design and justify major automation projects and control system upgrades. Author or co-author of more than 20 technical papers, Pete also holds three patent applications on abnormal situation prevention techniques. 

Beginning his career at E.I. DuPont, Patrick has extensive industry experience and held many senior management and technical positions in the process control industry.  Patrick has developed and implemented state-of-the-art advanced automation, optimization, and production management systems in refineries, petrochemical, and chemical plants around the world.  He has led numerous feasibility and benefit studies and provided leadership in the design and implementation of large scale systems integrating control with MES and ERP. Patrick currently specializes in petroleum industry supply chain optimization, logistics automation systems, and Greenhouse Gas regulations.

Mark’s expertise is helping customers optimize performance of process control loops to increase production, improve product quality, reduce energy consumption, and increase operator productivity.  Specializing in processes that benefit the entire range of level, flow, pressure, temperature, composition, pH, etc, Mark has provided consulting services on a wide variety of applications, including LNG liquefaction, fractionation train, sulfur recovery unit, steam plant, olefins, fermentation, polyethylene oxide, batch centrifuge, and ethanol.

In his previous role with the Carderock Division Naval Surface Warfare Center, Augie directed the development of predictive monitoring systems and implemented maintenance strategies.  Leveraging his years of experience in reliability in a mission-critical environment, Augie leads Emerson’s efforts to design, implement, and execute Asset Management projects and programs that help customers balance the right technology, work processes, and expertise to create world-class performance.

Norman is a senior consulting engineer with twenty five years of experience in process control design, process auditing, process simulation, and training.  Norman’s specialty is implementing control performance studies and control loop tuning to help customers optimize production and efficiency.  Norman's auditing experience covers several different industries, including many chemical-related process areas in pulp and paper and steel production, batch reactor controls for pharmaceutical, boiler controls and cogeneration simulation for power, heavy oil operations, and liquid petroleum pipeline controls.

Chris has more than 20 years of experience in petrochemicals and polymers. Prior to joining Emerson he worked for ICI, Huntsman, and SABIC in a variety of roles including control engineer, business planner, SAP project leader, and commercial operations manager. With operational knowledge of olefins, aromatics, and LDPE production processes, Chris’ particular strength is his ability to draw on experience from across the business landscape, ensuring that control and operations systems fit with business processes and enterprise system to optimize the entire value chain.

Mike is a world-recognized expert on industrial safety standards.  Prior to joining Emerson, Mike held varying engineering, sales, and marketing roles at AkzoNobel and Alcoa. At AkzoNobel, Mike’s experience in control and safety systems led him to more focused roles in safety.  Mike consults with customers to help them better implement functional safety.   He is a frequent speaker at industry symposiums on safety lifecycle management topics and has been widely published.  Mike is a member of the ISA 84 functional safety standards committee and co-chair for ISA 99 Working Group 7 on safety and security.

Roger’s specialty is developing diagnostics applications for a wide range of industial processes.  He brings to Emerson 26 years experience doing process development at Dow Chemical Co.  During his career, his responsibilities have widened his expertise to include a variety of chemical processes, spanning petrochemical, agrichemical, specialty chemicals, and inorganic bulk applications.  He has six issued US patents and numerous pending applications.
