We apply proven process control and monitoring logic on our world-class Ovation™ expert control system to provide a powerful, yet user-friendly operations center while coordinating various systems in a comprehensive, plant-wide architecture.
The main purpose of the Ovation Unit Coordinated Control system is to control plant megawatt output to either an operator-entered setpoint or an external load dispatch demand. This will take into consideration the megawatts being generated by all combustion turbines (depending on unit configuration), as well as the megawatts generated by the steam turbine. Since the steam turbine output is included in the total generated megawatts, any load being produced as a result of the duct burners being fired will also be taken into consideration.
When a combustion turbine is being brought on line, control is strictly local. The control system has no influence on the firing rate of the combustion turbine or the megawatts it produces. The Ovation system will track the load from the combustion turbine in anticipation of gaining control from the local system. When ready, the local system will allow the control system to assume control and the control system will take control of the demand to the combustion turbine. Due to the tracking function, the transfer from local (vendor) to remote (DCS) is bumpless. The local system will maintain the ability to resume control of the combustion turbine.
