Statoil chooses TankRadar Rex;
Staff safety is essential
"With an automated tank gauging system we can now provide our staff with a safe working environment. I rely on TankRadar Rex a hundred percent", says Jan Ekelund, Manager at Statoil's terminal in Malmö, Sweden.

The terminal in Malmö is Statoil's second largest, taking in 800,000 m³ diesel oil, gasoline, jet fuel and heating oil every year. The terminal has bought 24 TankRadar Rex, allowing them to skip the time consuming and at wintertime dangerous work to stand on the tank roof every time a loading is made to hand dip. Precision helps the terminal to use the full tank volumes, and achieve better control over how much is pumped in and out. In tank gauging precision means ± 1 mm (less than 1/16 in.).

Reliability a key safety issue

Every day tank trucks from Statoil, Jet, Preem and Shell come and get their special mix of oil and additives. The great rate of turnover demands efficient and automated handling and measurement equipment with the highest accuracy and minimal maintenance. "For us reliability is critical. Overfill would not only cost us much it would also put the staff in danger", says Mr. Ekelund. Having a reliable automatic tank gauge now means a lot as Statoil now can read reliable levels from the control room.
