The Rosemount 3144P allows dual sensors and features a capability called Hot Backup(r). Upon primary temperature sensor failure, Hot Backup automatically switches the reported variable from the primary sensor to the secondary sensor. A maintenance alert is generated, notifying the operator that the primary sensor has failed, and Hot Backup is active.
The Hot Backup alert allows for maintenance to be scheduled to replace the failed primary sensor, without losing this critical temperature measurement and disrupting the control of your process.

As a sensor degrades, the temperature it reports can drift from the actual value, thus decreasing measurement point integrity. The Rosemount 3144P allows dual sensors and features a capability called Sensor Drift Alert. Sensor Drift Alert monitors the differential of Sensor 1 and Sensor 2. When the value of the differential drifts beyond a user-configurable level, the 3144P recognizes that one of the sensors is drifted.
When a drift of the sensors is detected, the transmitter sends an alert to indicate the loss of measurement integrity, allowing maintenance to be scheduled.

Thermocouples are often installed in high temperature processes, where unscheduled shutdowns are expensive. Thermocouple loop health can be compromised by wire thinning, sensor degradation or corrosion. These causes will eventually result in sensor failure.
The Thermocouple Diagnostic works in the background of your temperature measurement, continually monitoring the resistance of a thermocouple loop. When the resistance increases over a certain value, a designated "Trigger Level", the 3144P sends an alert suggesting sensor replacement. This allows you to schedule preventative maintenance on a degrading temperature measurement.

Open or Shorted Sensors are the most common sensor failure conditions. Open Sensor conditions can be caused by shock, vibration, corrosion and wire thinning and fraying. Shorted conditions could occur from vibrating connections, bent wiring or contamination by a conductive substance (like water or Magnesium Oxide).
The Rosemount 3144P features Open and Shorted Sensor Diagnostics, which recognizes when these sensor failures occur, and generates an Alarm to enable maintenance. Use the Open and Short Diagnostic to determine why a measurement point has failed.
