The 5400 doesn’t select the strongest echo as the surface but instead it simultaneously tracks up to 5 echoes. The sophisticated transmitter software uses advanced mathematical algorithms to categorize each echo and to identify the surface. Additionally, a threshold consisting of 100 points (!) can be used to mask out disturbances and known obstructions can be registered to aid the transmitter to correctly categorize them.
