History of Mobrey Limited
The origins of Mobrey Measurement (Mobrey Ltd.) go back to 1908 when the founder of the company, Ronald Trist, spotted the need for automatic level controls on boilers. By 1911 he had developed and patented the Thermofeed regulator, which was manufactured by Mobrey in Slough up until 1991.
In 1947, the Chief Engineer of the company, Leonard Bomyer, designed a magnetic level switch based on a patent licensed from the KDG Company. Named the ‘Mobrey’ - an anagram of the designer’s name – the switch was to become a staple instrument of level monitoring and control throughout the world, and is still widely used today, 60 years on.
The Mobrey switch was so successful that when the company was acquired by the Bestobell Group in 1975, the company name was changed to include the brand and re-launched as Bestobell Mobrey. Since then, Mobrey has remained a constant element of the company name, through various changes of ownership and branding.
