Here are just a few of the success stories from Emerson's Instrument & Valve Services team.

Derrick Woodley

In September 1998, Derrick Woodley was pursuing his Electronics Engineering Technology degree at ITT Technical Institute. But he knew that in addition to this vital classroom experience, he needed more. He turned to Emerson Process Management’s Instrument & Valve Services.

As a temporary hire in the Service & Support division, he mastered the Rosemount product line. Within three months, Derrick was offered a full-time Instrument Technician position. A combination of dedication, skill, and ongoing training led to numerous promotions, including Senior Service Technician, Lead Technician, and ultimately Field Service Engineer. This new role challenges Derrick to tap into his expertise to work with multiple divisional products, including Rosemount Measurement, Micro Motion, and Mobrey-Solatron. Regardless of his rapid and much-deserved career expansion, Derrick feels that his career has yet to reach its peak. "Despite joining Instrument & Valve Services as a student, I never felt like I was ‘just a temp,’" said Derrick. "From day one, Instrument & Valve Services considered me, and helped me become, a professional."

Russ Shepard

Russ Shepard began his journey with Emerson’s Instrument & Valve Services as a Machinist in the LaPorte, Texas Service Operations. His technical and team-building skills quickly translated into a promotion to Lead of the Machining Department. Based on his department’s excellent productivity, Russ was tapped to participate in high-visibility, critical project management endeavors, which led to a post in Algeria on the Sonatrach Project. This two-year initiative, in which Russ served as assistant project manager, resulted in a rebuilt gas plant, as well as satisfied local customers.

Upon his U.S. return, Instrument & Valve Services promoted Russ to Environment, Safety and Health Manager for the Pasadena, Texas Service Operations. His high-level management performance prompted additional promotions and increasingly prestigious titles, including Operations Manager, Branch Manager for the Longview Service Operations, and his current role as the Region Manager. Known throughout Instrument & Valve Services for his business and leadership savvy, Russ has again been selected for an international project: the Eastern Canadian Service Operations in Edmonton, Alberta. "Instrument & Valve Services has given me the opportunity to work and lead in so many exciting arenas," said Russ. "As a result, I’ve learned that product and service excellence translates into any language, any culture. An energized team and a satisfied external client base will retain and grow our business, no matter where in the world we work."

Jakie Weaver

Jackie Weaver joined Instrument & Valve Services as a Receptionist for the LaPorte, TX, Service Operations, bringing with her a keen knowledge of and dedication to customer service. She soon augmented her important role with other professional challenges, such as invoicing. Her expertise was quickly rewarded with a promotion to Customer Service Associate, allowing her one-on-one interaction with valued external customers. Her professionalism and expert rapport soon caused her to "pack her bags" as she was transferred to the Beaumont, Texas Service Operations, and promoted to Senior Customer Service Associate. Her excellent performance in this position launched her to her current Area Manager role, where Jackie continues to effectively lead her team in the highly competitive Texas Gulf service market. "After years of experience, I know the Instrument & Valve Services capabilities," said Jackie. "But aside from the services, it’s the people—both my team and my customers—that make working for Emerson so rewarding. Guiding my employees and serving my customers are at the heart of my career."
