"No Surprises" Outage Preparedness Program
Sometimes surprises are no party.

Outages are serious business. They carry a significant price tag, require meticulous plant-wide coordination, and depend on flawless communication. With so much riding on the results, outages can feel stressful and surprises are anything but fun.

The best plan includes "No Surprises".

A planned outage needs to be just that: planned. Preparation allots time for necessary repairs, replacements, upgrades and improvements, but also provides the speed needed to get your plant back online as soon as possible.

Emerson’s Instrument & Valve Services "No Surprises" Outage Preparedness Program recognizes the power of predictability. Our step-by-step process helps you anticipate needs and potential problems, offering a forecast of your outage and removing the guesswork that costs you time and money.

Five-day plan ensures you are good to go.

The "No Surprises" Outage Preparedness Program employs a five-day pre-outage plan which drills down to the smallest detail, to identify potential problems before you begin your next scheduled outage.

Day 1: Walk it Down
Field technicians walk down up to thirty valve and instrument assemblies at your facility, gathering nameplate data and photographs. Utilizing detailed information such as serial tag, size, and type, we can provide a prioritized work list for your next planned outage.

Day 2: Explore the Past
At your facility, field technicians collaborate with plant personnel to review historical asset maintenance and current operating conditions, seeking to better understand—and head off—reoccurring problems.

The field technicians also review past serial card data to prepare a spreadsheet of construction details and history. These manufacturing serial card records offer technicians a glimpse into the past, which can be leveraged as a critical planning tool for the upcoming outage.

Day 3: Map Your Future
Developing the diagnostic and outage scope is a make-or-break step. At your site, field technicians proficient with AMS Suite: Intelligent Device Manager, FlowScanner and ValveLink® software perform diagnostics on up to eight of your control valves to help determine both outage scope and criticality.

Days 4 and 5: Analyze and Report
At our Emerson’s Instrument & Valve Service site, field technicians:
  • Organize a spreadsheet of construction details based on criticality of valves and instruments.
  • Develop a spare parts list, noting availability and lead times.
  • Prepare diagnostic reports to review health of valves and instruments as well as identify those which can be repaired inline, preventing costly removal.
At the conclusion of the fifth day, field technicians will deliver:
  • Complete materials plan for your next outage
  • Detailed diagnostic reports of valves and instruments with recommendations for repair, replacement, or upgrade
  • Comprehensive cost estimate for repairs

The "No Surprises" Outage Preparedness Program combines the experience of our field technicians with Emerson's cutting edge technologiesto identify potential delays in your next planned outage before they occur. Simply put, it is our plan to keep your plant running smoothly while online and during your next outage.
