
The DeltaV SIS™ hardware provides customization to fit the system requirements for any safety application. Applications that require safety instrumented systems to reduce risk come in all sizes and topologies. The DeltaV SIS hardware modularity also provides flexibility to meet changing project requirements. DeltaV SIS can handle the smallest to the largest application and has the flexibility to address widely distributed architectures. The DeltaV SIS power supplies, communication channels, hardware, and real-time operating systems are completely independent of the DeltaV™ BPCS, maintaining the separation required by IEC 61511.
As part of Emerson’s Smart SIS, DeltaV SIS leads the industry with the world’s first smart logic solver. The Smart SIS approach uses the power of predictive field intelligence to increase the availability of the entire safety instrumented function. The logic solver communicates with intelligent field devices using the HART protocol to diagnose faults before they cause spurious trips.
Independent, redundant communication architecture is used to send secure SIS data between smart logic solvers. This separate network, called the SISNet, is TÜV certified for SIL 3 applications and provides redundant peer-to-peer communications between logic solvers, both within a DeltaV SIS node and between nodes. Between nodes, SISNet Repeaters are used to extend communication beyond the local logic solvers and broadcast global messages to remote logic solvers through the fiber-optic ring.
