DeltaV Version 6.3

I/O Redundancy

Mission critical processes require a high degree of availability of the automation system. Now the DeltaV system offers greater levels of redundancy for higher system availability to address your critical processes.

  • FOUNDATION Fieldbus Host Interface Redundancy. Now, as you build your PlantWeb architecture, you can add redundant FOUNDATION fieldbus host interface cards to your fieldbus segments, to achieve a higher level of availability of your system. Like all of the redundant I/O, switchover is fast and bumpless.

You can upgrade your H1 and redundant I/O card software on-line without impacting your process. Redundant H1 is available with the new Series 2 H1 card.

  • Redundant Fieldbus Segment Power. A redundant power supply is also available to power the H1 FOUNDATION fieldbus segments.

  • Serial Interface Redundancy. Now you can more securely connect your existing PLCs, DCSs, and other serial devices as MODBUS slaves to the DeltaV system with redundant MODBUS communications.

  • Classic and HART I/O Redundancy. DeltaV Classic and HART I/O have a high level of reliability, providing the process availability required for most applications.

DeltaV redundant I/O uses the same Series 2 I/O cards as non-redundant I/O. This allows users to leverage their investments in installed I/O and in I/O spares. No additional configuration or wiring is required. Available cards include:
    • 8 Channel AO including HART
    • 8 Channel AI including HART
    • 8 Channel 24V DI
    • 8 Channel 24V DO
You can on-line upgrade the software in these cards, without impacting the process, just as you can with redundant DeltaV controllers.

    More Digital Busses

  • DeviceNet. The DeltaV system adds DeviceNet to its leading lineup of digital busses which include FOUNDATION fieldbus, HART, AS-i bus and Profibus. The DeltaV DeviceNet native interface is a field-proven interface for connecting motor starters, variable speed drives, and other DeviceNet slave devices. Using DeviceNet in control strategies is quick and easy. A full slate of diagnostics is provided for fast troubleshooting.

All of the digital bus technologies and traditional I/O can be easily intermixed on the same DeltaV controller. Unlike other automation systems, the same configuration, diagnostic, and operator interface techniques are used to configure the system.

  • Third-party FOUNDATION fieldbus Device Support. The DeltaV system provides third-party device support for devices that have successfully passed rigorous testing. This testing ensures reliability and safety and allows the user to benefit from the open fieldbus architecture when selecting field devices. For devices that are not yet in the library, you can also import the device definition (DD) and capability file directly into the DeltaV system. From DeltaV v5.3 to DeltaV v6.3, 36 new fieldbus devices have been added to the fieldbus library including ones from 5 new manufacturers. Visit EasyDeltaV.com/DeviceDownloads for the most current list of devices.

  • Integrated ValveLink Software. Emerson's AMS ValveLink SNAP-ON application enables you to monitor and troubleshoot your FOUNDATION fieldbus DVC5000f Series digital valve controllers. AMS ValveLink is fully integrated into the DeltaV Explorer, when installed. It's easy. Just select a commissioned DVC5000f valve controller in the DeltaV Explorer and right-click Valve Diagnostics. AMS ValveLink allows you to view diagnostic tests, configurations, specific alerts and to run all offline diagnostics.

    PlantWeb Alerts

Traditionally, device problems manifest as process problems. When there is a process alarm, you need to decide whether it is because of a process or device problem. Then, if it is a device, you need to know which device caused the problem. The result is lost time and money. With DeltaV version 6 and AMS software, select Emerson FOUNDATION fieldbus devices will report a device problem as a PlantWeb alert with the tag of the device, reason and time stamp. Prioritized alerts can be displayed on the operator display and the maintenance workstation, providing unique device alert and user support guidance. Together, the DeltaV system and AMS provide context-sensitive screen display instructions on how to fix the problem, and, in many cases proactively avoid a shutdown situation in your process. Now you have faster troubleshooting time and more efficient operations.

  • Smarter Field Devices. FOUNDATION fieldbus devices from Emerson, part of the PlantWeb architecture, have the ability to do self-diagnostics and report on the state of their health. Devices can report on pending problems as well as problems that have occurred. They report on many aspects of their health -- some more potentially serious and immediate than others. All of this information is reported to AMS and the DeltaV system. The DeltaV system receives these alerts and prioritizes and narrowcasts them to the right person.

  • Easier device data access. Enhancements to AMSinside the DeltaV system give easier access to device configuration parameters, easier navigation, and faster device configuration with ability to compare configurations.

    Neural Networks

  • DeltaV Neural. Part of the DeltaV advanced control software family; DeltaV Neural provides virtual sensor capabilities. It's a perfect fit where analyzers or time lags associated with lab analysis are an issue.

Some typical virtual sensor applications include viscosity, specific gravity, composition, pH, particle size, octane number, melt index, vapor pressure, whiteness, composition, freeness, and emissions monitoring. Processes can now be run more reliably and accurately since the neural network can provide continuous feedback on process variables without delays typical with instrument or laboratory analysis.

DeltaV Neural automatically performs pre-processing, neural network design, and network training. Engineers can now easily and quickly configure DeltaV Neural function blocks even without detailed knowledge of neural network technology. Since the neural networks run directly in the DeltaV controller, it executes faster (up to once a second), can be redundant, and eliminates the cost of host computers and communications hardware.

    Engineering Tools Enhancement

  • Faster Version Control Updates. On average, the time to perform concurrent engineering tasks with version control enabled on DeltaV v6.3 software is half the time of a v5.3 system running on similar hardware.
  • Increased DeltaV Explorer Ease of Use. Now you can sort on column headers in the details view of the DeltaV Explorer. User-defined engineering units can now be created under Setup data. You no longer need to use the FHX file import method to create user-defined engineering units. And, named set references are provided so that usages of named sets can be easily found. Select 'References' on a named set to view all of the modules using that named set.

  • Batch

  • Dynamic Operator Prompts. The Batch Operator Interface can display dynamic operator prompts that allow embedding of phase parameter values in prompt strings. These dynamic operator prompts can be created dynamically in the controller, taking advantage of the controller's string handling capabilities.
